Brake Caliper Rebuild Kits

A caliper that drags, weeps fluid at the piston, or needs pumping before the lever firms up can often be saved with fresh seals. A brake caliper rebuild kit lets you strip, clean and reassemble the original caliper instead of replacing it; check each listing for exactly what the kit includes.

Match the kit to the caliper on your bike. Front and rear calipers on the same machine take different kits, and fitment can change between model years, so check the year range in the listing against your machine. All Balls Racing kits (the 18-3xxx series) and ProX kits are catalogued by exact application — ProX lists several by name, such as the rear kit for the 2002–08 Grizzly 660 and the front kit for the 2008–14 KFX450R. Shindy covers a wide spread of Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki street and off-road calipers, split clearly into front and rear kits, and K&L Supply fills in further Japanese fitments. Psychic front and rear MX repair kits cover common dirt-bike calipers.

Rebuild tips. Seals only work on a clean, pit-free piston bore; if the piston itself is scored or rusted, add a replacement from caliper pistons in the same order. Use fresh DOT 4 fluid, lubricate the new seals with brake fluid only, and bleed from the farthest caliper first. If the pads are below the wear line it's worth doing them at the same time — see brake pads and shoes — and a spongy lever that survives a caliper rebuild points to the master cylinder or ageing brake lines.
